FAQ
Questions, questions. The universe is full of them, even The Wrong Universe. What exactly is a Gallery Edition? Where does your artwork come from? Can you commission one featuring your best friend? And what happened to the laws of physics? We've attempted to answer the important questions below, and a few others.
What is Radio Funky?
Radio Funky is me. I make the art. I even made this website, mostly on my own, but occasionally I had to ask for help. Encouragement, feedback and a first level of critique comes from the family. (Radio Funky also used to be a pirate radio station, but that's another story)
What's the inspiration?
Stuff I see around me and photograph, either at home / work (Central / East London) or on holiday. And then stuff I've really enjoyed on TV or in the cinema. So each artwork begins with a real-world setting, and is then transformed through photographic manipulation, digital painting, composition and a healthy disregard for the laws of reality. After that it is just fun, hopefully ending up with something that is very pleasant to look at, or makes you think, or makes you smile... or in the best scenario possible, all three.
What's your favourite film?
Bladerunner. It holds a special place.
(I'll stop there)
Who's your favourite character?
Homer Simpson. Everything he says is makes me smile. Everything.
When are you going to start the real FAQ?
Right here, right now.
Is there any AI in your work?
No. Nulla nada niente. They are produced from original photographs that are over painted. This takes it's time... but that's how I end up with the final artwork. They are then transferred onto archival paper or high grade canvas. The methodology is detailed further in the About section of this website.
What's your pricing method?
To enjoy these artworks I wanted them to be affordable. Apart from the time taken to create them, I have selected the highest grade formats, inks, processes and substrates on which to produce them, such that they are genuinely high quality. And then there's an international fulfillment partner to ensure a local presence for all the logistics. Finally, for most of them there two price points: an Archival Print only option for you to chose how it is displayed, and a framed and ready to hang Gallery Edition.
Where are the artworks produced?
They created by me in Shoreditch, London, United Kingdom. Then, depending on your choice of format and destination, your order may be finished at a facility in the UK, Europe, USA or elsewhere within our fulfillment network.
What formats are available?
Most artworks are available as an Artist's Print or Gallery Edition. These are detailed on each artwork page.
-
Artist's Print - an archival Giclée print on 310gsm premium art paper, so probably the highest quality production you can get. This format is supplied unframed, giving you the freedom to choose how you'd like to display it.
-
Gallery Edition - also archival Giclée printing this time on 400gsm artist-grade cotton canvas, presented in a handmade 38mm handmade wooden floating frame and ready to hang. The canvas sits slightly away from the frame, creating the distinctive floating effect.
-
Available sizes vary by artwork.
How long does delivery take?
This varies by location and your chosen format, and is all detailed in our Deliveries & Returns page, together with tracking and geographies covered. The link for which is also at the bottom of every page.
What about returns?
Likewise, our returns policy is detailed in the Delivery & Returns page - link also provided at the bottom of this page.
How long does delivery take?
This varies by location and your chosen format, and again is all detailed in our Deliveries & Returns page.
Can you offer delivery by tele-portation?
We are working on it. Our technology currently relies on the physics of this universe and involves high-quality finishing, robust packaging and a reliable courier. However, we are keeping an eye on developments in The Wrong Universe, where it appears anything may be possible.
Do you offer custom artwork?
Yes. You can commission your own Radio Funky artwork and put someone you love - or perhaps yourself - into The Wrong Universe. You can bring us your own idea, or we can help develop one with you. We can also adapt an existing Radio Funky artwork to create something completely personal. Every commission starts with a conversation, then we build the characters, setting and story into an original handcrafted digital oil painting created specifically for you. Have an idea? Explore our Commissions page - link provided in the main menu above.
How do you decide which characters go into your artwork?
Very carefully. Then we put them somewhere they have absolutely no business being. And there are so many that haven't appeared yet, but these are all crammed up in ideas itching to get painted. Some of the characters are real, but very much disguised (even my wife is in there somewhere). Some aren't. Some are very well-known. Some are merely behaving as if they are. That's probably enough existential philosophy for an FAQ.
Do you sell the artworks in galleries or shops?
Well, there is my studio in Shoreditch. You are welcome to collect one from here if you wish. And clearly we sell and deliver every artwork directly through this website. I've also appeared in a few pop-up art exhibitions and am now exploring a couple of opportunities to take The Wrong Universe into the physical world.
I have a different question
